Antique Murano Mirrors
To complete the collection of Murano Glass artworks, in addition to chandeliers, lamps and various furnishing objects, we find the Venetian Mirrors. The attention to detail, the harmony between shapes and colors make these artisan creations truly unique.
Just like the antique Venetian chandeliers, the antique Venetian mirrors are also handcrafted by our Master glassmakers in the furnaces in Murano. Each individual Venetian mirror, depending on the model, is enriched with leaves, curls, canes and rosettes in Murano glass faithfully reproduced freehand.
Each glass leaf, for example, is designed and worked with special pliers: first the shape of the leaf is created and then, at a later stage, the herringbone-shaped veins are drawn. In addition to these very refined details typical of the workmanship of Murano glass chandeliers and mirrors, a peculiar characteristic of a Venetian mirror is the engraving.
Also done freehand, the engraving takes place on the back of the glass plate and is made using an engraving wheel of various sizes depending on the design to be created; the engraved plate is then polished with cork which gives it shine and depth and then silvered.
Once dry, the silver plating is removed by hand with a swab, leaving it only on the engraved part of the glass. Finally, as a final step, the sheet is painted in the desired colour.
